Deconstruction help
« on: July 24, 2013, 01:03:01 pm »

So I accidentally built a statue in an inaccessible location.

Code: [Select]
+++++#+++
+++++#+++
+++++####
#####S++#
++++#+++#
++++#####

I want to remove it.

I could dig through the walls to get obviously, but I don't want to do that.  Is there anyway to remove the statue without carving up my fortress walls? I prefer natural stone, and don't want to ruin it if I don't have to.

Your dwarves should be able to deconstruct it diagonally... They constructed it diagonally, after all. Have you, in fact, set it for demolition and waited to see what happened?

Children you rescue shouldn't behave like rabid beasts.  I guess your regular companions shouldn't act like rabid beasts either.
I think that's a little more impossible than I'm likely to have time for.

I have, it's the oddest fucking thing.  They wont touch it, and I need the room.  They constructed it diagonally, and now they wont deconstruct diagonally.

And yes, I ordered it to be deconstructed.

Are they suspending or cancelling the order? Is anyone idling?

It's like they can't reach it.  Plenty of idles, no job cancellations.

I would try spawning magma on the statue to melt it, but it's made out of platinum, which is magma-safe.

Hmm... The only non-wall-destroying-thing I can think of is to drop a chunk of the floor above onto it, then mine that. Dangerous and messy, but hey: pretty natural walls (just not floors). Pretty dorfy I think.

I got it.  I used df hack to change the material to copper, then melted it with magma.
