War pets
« on: August 07, 2013, 06:17:53 am »

Hey guys,

my whole fort revolves around the breeding of war alligators. I've successfully breeded them to a tame state and I have about 30 war alligators defending my entrance. Lately, I've made male children pump until they come of age. My goal is a squad of elite dwarves, each having 2 war alligators with him.

I've assigned them their war pets, but they don't accompany them when orders are given. What could be the problem?

I believe the problem could be a bug I read about, where your assigned war animals flee indoors with the rest of the civilians, if a civilian alert is active.

There's no civilian alert active. I have pastured them, but nothing changed when they were unpastured.

You definitely don't want to pasture them, if you want them to follow.

I've noticed a bit of hysteresis when moving animals in and out of zones.  Maybe just give them a little more time to start following them after removing them from the pen?
