How long should it take for a season to pass?

I'm going to time my game later today and see how it compares to the norm.

Would depend entirely on how fast your fps is.

And there is the question. How many Frames Per Season?

At 2400 frames and 100 frames a second then the season would go by in 24 seconds, a month in 8 seconds, a year in 1min 32seconds. Or maybe he meant 240000 frames. Then it would be 40 minutes a season and 2hours 40 minutes a year. That seems closer.

On the other hand, nobody counts up to a quarter million...

I think a good average day for most people is ten seconds.

Fifteen minutes per season assuming no pausing. That's a pretty good average for a fortress with only a few dwarves.

A fortress with 200 dwarves and 300 animals, however, with temperature enabled... I've gotten a pathetic 60 seconds to a game day. That's an hour and a half :P

Srry, 2400 was per day. that's what I get for posting at work. So, as season would be 90 times that.

What could I disable to make the fps higher? It's not playable on my computer anymore!

It seems my 1 Ghz was just on the edge of what you could play with in the old version, because now with all the added stuff it runs so awfully slow it's not playable. I wouldn't have expected that from a text based game.... :S ...even if it is a OpenGL-text-based game :P

So I should disable temperature? Anything else?

The graphics are misleading, DF hits your CPU HARD... I'm having trouble with the new version and only 7 dwarves  :(

Weather his a big FPS hit and AFAIK it does not matter much for dwarf mode (yet) so that's a good start. Temp should help some too, though it matters alot more in this version now that bugs are fixed. Those are the big 2, really.

otherwise... less dwarves, smaller starting area.

Action: Disabled both weather and temperature.
Results: runs at 10-15 fps
Computer: 1Ghz P3
Opinion about CPU demands: Woah!!
