Dwarf Fortress reference in a Borderlands 2 DLC
« on: July 17, 2013, 02:24:39 pm »

Well, I'm not exactly sure where I should post this, or if It has been posted before(tried searching, nothing came up.) But, I noticed something pretty awesome while playing the Borderlands 2 DLC: Tiny Tina's Assault On Dragon Keep.

The dwarves in this game often shout little references of multiple things, like Minecraft, Snow White, etc.
And when you kill one of this little buggers, they sometimes shout the phrase, "Losing... Is.. Fun!.."

Just something that I thought I should share, haha.

There's also a Boatmurdered head in the main game. Because Gearbox are pretty awesome.

And there's chaos when push comes to shove, but it's music to my ears.

Welcome to Murdermachines. Try the gecko sauce; it's delectable and delightful, a wonderful blend of savory and spicy that makes any dish delicious without being too overwhelming.

There's a post somewhere which covers some dwarves discussing how they flooded Ironforge - World of Warcraft.

It's not like a Borderlands reference means anything anyway. There is a clear difference between "knowing nod to another thing" and "tactlessly namedropping something" and Gearbox has clearly past it. They're not being clever by putting references everywhere; rather, they only achieve to be obnoxious. I'm not saying references are bad. They're pretty fun when you see something and you catch the reference, but when almost everything is a reference of something it only shows how unoriginal you are.

All that from a guy with an overdone internet meme avatar/name (possibly two actually).  Wow... Pot, meet kettle.

Yep. Doesn't make my point any less valid.

As a side note, do kids still really use over 9000?

Don't know - I can't keep up with kids these days due to my walking cane...

Only as a nod to 'that was once a thing.'
