Meanwhile, on silly devices
« on: September 03, 2013, 12:23:49 pm »

got your attention? good.

Basically, I am finding myself fucked over by an Android 4.0.3 device I own. For it to be able to internets, I need to connect to an USB dongle which wisely had its SSID broadcasting diaabled and I can't do a damn thing to put it back on without using its web interface. See where this is going?

If you don't, I need to somehow abuse the system to connect to an USB device via internet. Additional apps for the purpose of this would be noticeably hard to get as I'd have to find my way to an unsecured connection to download 'em. Not even sure if its rooted though.

What are you using to connect to the network now? I can't tell if your network adapter is connected to your Android, or you're bridging it through a PC or something. What router is it connecting to? Could you get into its settings and find the SSID manually, and just add it on your android? (using Add Wifi Network, entering the name, password, etc, should be able to connect if it's sane, which I don't usually assume for smartphones but eh)

Had to wedge my way through automated services various and found that my phone company charges $2 for 125 megabytes of bandwidth. I use it for this board and some textboards elsewhere.

Currently the dongle is connected directly to the tablet via USB. My phone doesn't exactly have wifi capabilities, but I'll try manually inputting the SSID, I might just remember it.

e: Were torn between obligatory doublepost and edit. After some guesswork I got the SSID right and it was easy from there. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be locking the thread now.
