Stupid Question
« on: October 15, 2007, 01:57:00 am »

My fortress is lasting quite a deal longer than I anticipated. That's great, but I'd like to try adventure mode some more. Is there no way to play adventure mode without abandoning my fortress?

You can create a new world (or download a premade one), and play adventure in that world.  But, if you haven't guessed, you'll be in a different world where your fortress doesn't exist.

You can always back up your save, then abandon for some adventure mode fun.  You could even explore your own fort that way (though if you found anything for the Legends screen, you wouldn't be able to hang onto them once you got your backup back).

zip (or rar, or whatever) up the regionx.sav and regionx in data/save and then abandon and have fun! then when done, unzip them overwriting the directory and file, and go back to playing your fortress. don't forget to exit DF before backing up or restoring.

And don't make my mistake, copy-pasting and renaming the region. I managed to abandon my fort in both copies of the region at the same time. Without a backup.   :(

To be on the safe side, put the backup in a different directory, meaning a place on your system that is nowhere near any DF related files.  The desktop is a good and easy place for temporary storage.
