How to efficiently put the dead into coffins?
« on: July 09, 2013, 02:28:29 pm »

I hand-built four rooms and each room held one coffin. I wanted the dead to have a nice resting place.

After building these four rooms, I was a bit distraught that I had to assign each coffin to a dwarf. I have 90+ dwarves and it is impossible to handcraft a room for each of them as well as assigning 90+ coffins to each dwarf. So instead I opted for a mass grave where it would be a huge room filled with coffins instead of wasting time handcrafting 90+ rooms.

Is there a way to easily assign that room for ALL coffins (instead of assigning each coffin to a section of the room), and is there a way to tell the game to put any dead in any available coffin unless it's been specifically designated to a dwarf?

Build the coffin, (q)uery it and make sure that dwarves can be buried in them. And that's all. Dead dwarf--> available coffin.

And that's the way almost everyone handles dead dwarves (excluding nobles)

Is there a way to put existing dead into coffins? I've had some dwarves die before having built a burial zone, so currently their body is outside.

Well, make sure that the body is not forbidden and that in the orders menu you enabled your dwarves to collect garbage and bodies from outside.

Using the (q)uery menu you can allow the coffin/casket to be used for burial with b.

It got spoiled by all the babies drowning.......

the only honorable thing to do is to drain the area where their body and reclaim the body...even if it's at the bottom of the sea.

To do this, [q] over the coffin and allow burial, and don't make the coffin into a room.
