Inactive/Active status...?
« on: July 04, 2013, 09:14:35 am »

In one of my games I had a female Dwarf I nicked 'BullsEye' because she was great with the crossbow.  But during one siege a Goblin smashed up one of her legs REALLY badly.  She was sent to the hospital and it turned out she would never walk without a crutch again.  Now, I noticed her stats were changed from MarksDwarf to Trapper yet she was still listed in her unit's scroll as being a member (I had not removed her) and they were actively training.   I don't train half that squad or a third of that squad as they were my prime unit.  As far as I know she should have still been on duty.

Was it because she was in the hospital or was it just logic from the Dwarfs' point of view to make her inactive because she was no longer able to fight but still a member of the unit?

I did retire her and she worked, slowly, as a outside trapper and hauler.  To be honest it was kind of painful to watch her move about the screen - I always knew it was her because she was so slow.

I assume it was the game just following its programming but it kind of surprised me.  In a good way, but still somewhat surprising.

Does that happen a lot?  The Dwarfs change the mayor all the time, which I understand is based on leadership, but this minor detail change seems amazing to me.  Like they were keeping her in the unit as a honorary member?  Or was it just as simple as she was made inactive because she was not training?

She was made inactive because she wasn't training at that time. So she swapped back to whatever her highest civ job was.

inactive because, well, inactive in the hospital. If you add her now that she resumed working, she'll become active again. A small note on funny game stuff: due to stats gain from walking with a crutch, she'll actually be faster than before by the time she gets legendary crutchwalking skills

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Unless she was already at max agility from military training, but yeah, crutch-walking will help improve agility and keep it from rusting.  Had this happen to one of my axedwarves.  He's still murderously effective on one leg.

oh well, even if agility was already at the max, she'll be much, much faster than what we're hearing now
