Sedimentary layers?
« on: June 28, 2013, 09:33:17 pm »

So, I can't seem to find ANY locations with a sedimentary Layer, or any with flux stones. I've used the Site finder to check for flux, but i'm not finding ANYTHING, across an entire large map with mineral occurance on max.
What gives?

I don't understand the problem completely, but I've read some mildly varied accounts related to the nature of this problem. I think you want to lower mineral occurrence because sedimentary layers are not minerals afaik. There probably are flux stones but as I presently understand things the site-finder has a hard time locating them with very high mineral occurrence, not because they're not there so much as because they are sorta obscured by all the mineral veins. I think the finder checks for a certain flux density?

Again, I'm not entirely sure because I've read nothing clear on the matter, however I am positive that lowering the mineral occurrence should resolve the problem.

When it comes to the _absence_ of flux, the simple advice is not to trust the site finder. If you want to know whether a site that doesn't show flux on the site finder has some anyway, you can use DFHack's 'prospect all'. You can also simply take your chances. Embarks on volcanoes often lack the sedimentary and metamorphic layers where flux occurs, but the vast majority of other sites will have flux stones, no matter what the site finder says.

For sedimentary layers, pick a site on a river in a hilly or forested area.  I don't think I have ever embarked on those areas without getting sedimentary stone and its associated mineral types.

Okay, so, I made a new world with minerals set to 'frequent', and that solved it.
I guess it's something buggy with minerals set to errywhere, or something...
