Can you go back to an old fortress?
« on: June 21, 2013, 08:03:10 pm »

If you know where a fortress is on the map, can you embark again in the same area and, if you could, would you find the remains of the fortress?

Yes. Search using keyword 'reclaim' for details.

So, you can build more than one fortress on a particular map?  I'm not sure I see how that gets done.

You don't build a second fortress on the same map. You rebuild the old fort.

You abandoned it, which meant it turned into an adventurer's playground. Your dwarves didn't die, but they did become useless. All your stuff was scattered around (it's loot for brave adventurers). Anyone who was present and hated you is still present, to give adventurers someone to fight. They will ambush your ass. This includes dwarves who went berserk.

You can come back to this in Fortress Mode by reclaiming the fort, and you will still be able to use workshops. You will probably be able to get your stuff back, too, but it's scattered anywhere it could have been carried when you abandoned the fort and forbidden.

you can build as many forts on a world as you want and you can reclaim any old fort. Build a new fort there, well, you could, but the old one is still there

As sort of mentioned, you can only have one -active- fort at any time

If you abandon a fortress in unfortunate circumstances say, after a siege or with otherwise wounded or unhappy dwarfs, and then start a new fortress, you will probably get some very unhappy and upset migrants from your old fortress. They might be in rage already or all miserable and will complain to your expedition leader. Some may throw a tantrum right away.
