Phoebus UI Legend?
« on: June 19, 2013, 08:45:24 pm »

I'm pretty sure this is the best place for this question, but I could be wrong. Anyways, I've been playing DF for like 2 or 3 years now, and only just now downloaded the Lazy Newb Pack. I don't need it in the slightest, but it seemed to be the best way to see what tilesets played like.

Well, I've only figured out how to get the default one to work, which I assume is Phoebus' pack. It's cool and all, almost makes it seem like an entirey different game. [I've been playing with default ASCII the entire time.] However, there's one thing I don't get.. in the bottom right had corner, there's an H, followed by numbers. I can't for the life of me figure out what the hell it is. Right now it says ''H:0/0/0/0/12/4/3" With the numbers in varying colors. What is this? What does it mean?

Phoebus is not the default, though it is, by far, the most popular graphics set for those who don't prefer the ASCII style.

Those numbers are not part of the Phoebus pack. It's part of the utilities plugins by falconne integrated into dfhack that is bundled with the LNP. Specifically the Dwarf Monitor plugin. Those numbers show the happiness levels of your dwarves, with ecstatic being the number on the right in green, and miserable on the left in red. You currently have 3 ecstatic dwarves, 4 happy dwarves, and 12 content dwarves.

You can read more about these utilities and their uses in this thread (and the more specific thread for Dwarf Monitor)

I don't use most of them and you can safely ignore them. But some are awesome (e.g. the added search features in some menus). The "Newb" part of the name in LNP is misleading. It's really not for newbs. It's for people who don't want to spend their time hunting down all the individual utilities to improve their DF experience.

Oh. Well that's cool. Yeah it seemed o make things easier, yet was still super complicated. I've heard before it wasn't specifically for new players, just never tried it. Well thank you for answering my question. :D

You know, I cant but ask you why you never tried any mods. So... how come you played for 2-3 years, all vanilla, all ascii?

I prefer the vanilla game. I'm the same way with alot of things. DF Vanilla, Minecraft Vanilla.. Hell, it was a good solid year before I even used any addons back when I played World of Warcraft.

used any addons back when I played World of Warcraft.

You must not have raided in a progress raid then or healed in a raid either. Wow seems to be built around the use of addons by now.

I was guild leader of a guild that took down Arthas before they nerfed him. I just never needed them. Main Healed the whole place to Arthas, then Tanked him to death. Playing without addons in WoW isn't that hard at all.
