Ah, the smelter uses the 'smelt ore' instead of the make bar for processing most ores.  It is a little confusing at times (I can never remember what Sphalerite Garnierite, and Cassiterite smelt into by name alone).  a list of ores and what they turn into can be found here and a list of the metal bars and their ores/alloy requirements can be found here

Ah and I forgot.  In the status screen (press z) you can find the stones screen (it's the third one, press the right arrow twice)  it will list the stones and their uses so if you highlight Cassiterite it will have a comment about it being an ore of tin.

yup. Similarly, you'll hardly ever find "smelt iron bars", instead it's "smelt magnetite/hematite/limonite ore"

I know what might be wrong here.  The Rock Restrictions are messed up, possibly?

Press z, change tabs to Stone tab.

Make sure ALL the economic rocks are reserved, red text, except Marble.  If you don't reserve the rocks that smelt into silver or gold, they DO NOT show up in smelter list, just as your reporting and the others do.  Take care, Knutor

...This does not appear to be true, I just tested it and even built some floors with gold nuggets and was still able to smelt them just fine.  As far as I know the stone screen only toggles whether that stone will be available for the reactions listed exclusively.

The Z-Stones list only toggles whether or not the stone can be used for non-economic purposes (i.e. masonry) - it can always be used for reactions which specifically request it (as well as general ore smelting).

P.S. If you don't get this note, let me know and I'll write you another.
