How long for a Hammerer to hammer a criminal?
« on: June 15, 2013, 04:52:18 pm »

How long does it take for a hammerer to actually enact the sentence? I have a dwarf whom I found out to be a vampire and convicted him on 3 murder charges:

He's been in prison for a month now and still hasn't received any strikes.  On the other hand, poor Bembul there was unable to complete a mandate during a siege and was immediately beaten to death. I'm not sure why this vampire is still around

Hrm.  Vampires are too precious an asset to hammer into nothing.  You have someone who can infinitely train at anything.  You could potentially make him or her a legendary at everything.  I'd make a vampire the king if I could.

This vampiric monstrosity must not be allowed to run amok. It has already murdered many good dwarves. Suffer not the monster to live.

If the Hammerer doesn't take care of him by the time his sentence is up, I'm building a nice room that may or may not be connected to a magma pump that he can go hang out in.

They are too clever i think, the few i had would turn mayor in a blink of an eye or after a short time if i managed to put someone else in charge.

They are frigging immune to dwarf justice, only divine intervention from player stops them. I'd like to think they are literally too smooth for the peasant dwarfs to outsmart them.

The best thing to do is to put the vampire in a squad alone, open the caverns, seal him in and use him as a scout. You get your desired punishment AND a map of mushroom land. Very slick.

Had this happen before. From your screenshot, we can see that the vampire is sentenced to 347 days in prison and then 50 hammerstrikes. Did you think the hammering would happen first? He's on (un)death row.

On similar note - is it possible to survive hammering?

I regularly hammer vampires and they then stick around for months, oozing pus and blood. Is it possible for them to heal?

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?

Yep, so it happened that way :) I dunno, I guess I was expecting the hammering first and then prison.  Still though, vampire is gone and the fort is now safe

Nerve damage will never heal. However, given most [all] vampires require a stake in the brain to die, if a vampire is not killed by the hammering it will certainly survive and heal to quite the extent it can.
