Dwarf Fortress Handbook application
« on: June 10, 2013, 11:19:23 am »

I was playing DF the other day and as I was switching out my windows to the wiki page and I thought, "Hey this would be so much easier if I had an app with all this information in it."  So I grabbed my android phone and searched Google Play for an app and couldn't find anything.  I did the same with the Amazon appstore and Apple's appstore.  Nothing at all.  So I decided, Hey why don't I make an app myself.  So I dove head first into a few different app makers.  The only things that had what I was looking for was MIT App Inventor, and Android SDK with Eclipse.  Having no experience with Java or Eclipse in general I went with the former.  But it didn't provide enough custom-ability for me. So I tried my hands in Eclipse, Now I could do it but it would take forever to figure out and learn all that code.  Plus im having trouble figuring out the Layout Editor.  I put the incomplete (I mean like there's hardly anything to it) app I made with MIT App Inventor to the Amazon Appstore (because its free).

(Remove the spaces).

But I wanted to post this to see how the Community at Bay12, and how all the DF fans and Fortress Builders out there would react to the idea.  Also to see if anyone out there would want to help me create this app.  If your interested in my idea, and would like to help out somehow just send me a PM and i'll give you my email.

P.S I'm very aware that the "app" has nothing to it, but it was more of a test/experiment then a official build.

Wouldn't it be a lot easier and make more sense to just make a mobile layout for the df wiki?

CLA - an ASCII-like Graphic Pack with simplified letter-like creature graphics. The simple and clean looks of ASCII with distinct creature graphics - best of both worlds!

Very Possibly, but I don't know if there are CopyRight issues with that.  Plus I would like to make a mobile phone friendly UI into it instead of copying and pasting.
