embark with any animal?
« on: June 06, 2013, 04:31:22 pm »

I want to embark with any animal without messing with the raw files, is there any mod that lets me do this? if so, could you give a link?

go to your entity found in the "entitiy_default.txt" in the "raw/objects" foulder and add in [USE_ANY_PET_RACE], this will allow your civ access to any wildlife native to their claimed land.

What do you mean by entity found?

He missed a comma. He meant, "your entity, found in entity_default.txt"

So, go to your DF folder, open the folder "raw," then open "objects," then find entity_default.txt. Navigate to the line that begins to define your entity. Assuming this is Dwarves, you should see:
Code: [Select]
[ENTITY:MOUNTAIN]
[CIV_CONTROLLABLE]
[CREATURE:DWARF]
[TRANSLATION:DWARF]
[DIGGER:ITEM_WEAPON_PICK]
etc...
The text "ENTITY:MOUNTAIN" in square brackets, is called a Token; these are used to define what are known as raws. After [ENTITY_MOUNTAIN], in the next line, add: [USE_ANY_PET_RACE], so the raws look like this:
Code: [Select]
[ENTITY:MOUNTAIN]
[USE_ANY_PET_RACE]
[CIV_CONTROLLABLE]
[CREATURE:DWARF]
[TRANSLATION:DWARF]
[DIGGER:ITEM_WEAPON_PICK]
And as a final note, the token mentioned above can be added anywhere after the opening ENTITY:MOUNTAIN token, and before the next ENTITY: token, so long as it isn't in another opening token (like say, the position tokens).

Have fun :P

No, I am breeding more animals, because dingo meat can not sustain a fortress.
I hope giant cave swallows will do.

In masterwork if you play as kobolds you can only eat meat which means that the animals they have will sustain a fort. Maybe if you mod them into your own raws you could do the same?

Havent played kobold fort for awhile but I think the rats was where the main meat production came from.

With the size bug affecting butchering returns you'll need a lot of dingos.
