Sleeping Beast Element.
« on: May 29, 2013, 09:54:27 am »

In World Generation, the game would place a few Sleeping Beasts. You can see them on Embark Site when looking at site information, together to Deep Metals, Aquifer and stuff.

These beasts are extremely Fun, they re commonly so big that in game they re represented in more than one tile, and extremely hard to kill. They can be underground or at surface, or even in the bottom of oceans. They re sleeping, and inactive by normal. Every year there is a small chance it will wake up. It will also wake up when attacked or if noisy dwarves keep bothering it. The beast is randomized, similar to forgotten beast, but some common things in them is: They are always sleeping at beggining, they re giantic, they re extremely hard to kill, and if they re underground, they must have a way to reach surface, either by being able to dig onto blocks, and they re EXTREMELY, ABSOLUTELY, hostile.

They re so powerful, that, even when sleeping, they have effect on your dwarves life. Cave Ins re more common in zones with them as long as they re alive. If earthquakes are added, they may be extremely more common in zones with them, creatures will be scared of going near them.

Due to their size, most of your dwarves wouldnt do any real damage to them, even if they re legendary vampire warriors with extremely powerful weapons, and to deal any real damage to them, you will need siege weapons. They often have a lot of vital organs, for example, four hearts, thus making them die due to damage to vital organs harder.

Did i say already they re extremely Fun?

So... a titan, but not moving? This looks like a job for cave-in trap!

I wonder if the game has become odd.

It better be a big cave in, because if you fail to do it correctly, it will wake up. And you REALLY dont want that to happen.

Also it would be bigger and stronger than a titan :P

So, basically a creature which incorporates all the things which will eventually be given to Titans, but more so and it's asleep?

Meh. I mean, the "sleeping creature" bit is neat, but other than that it's a bit underwhelming.

Most of the stuff you're suggesting should just be added as an improvement to titans.

I'd say reduce the suggestion to "When titans are far more interesting, how about some of them prefer to sleep for centuries and have as their motivation for destructive tendencies titan-sized annoyance at whoever disturbs this slumber?" And being reduced to that, small as it may be, it is a good suggestion. Clearly doesn't need to be its own type of beast (it would be cool and is exactly what you'd want for an ordinary game's optional harder-than-the-final-boss sub-barely-a-plot sidequest boss, but this is Dwarf Fortress where things ought to be procedurally generated instead); but no need to throw out the entire suggestion on account of that. (Same thing goes for any other elements of this that aren't more or less planned for future Titan enhancements. I have no idea what all Toady wants to do with those.)

I have an idea. Let's play a game where you win by being as quiet as possible.
I get it, it's one of those games where losing is fun!
