Explore the other living quarters for more loot. Then go up the main staircase. If possible get a better weapon.

Carefully go to the stairs, staying on alert and without making too much noise (if there are no loud background sounds to hide footsteps, at least). Then go up a level.
Loot is nice, but it is way too dangerous and scary here where holding cells are, getting out is the priority.

Compromise: check the first few rooms, then panic, realize the holding cells are there, and go-go-Gadget the hell outta there.

The Vats
Alexandre calming himself down a bit leans back into the living quarters hallway, slowly making his was to the couple nearest rooms with open doors he proceeds to search for anything of use.  Unfortunately the rooms are even emptier then his own was, except for the few with odd sounds in them but he gives those doors a wide space.  Deciding to face the inevitable and not wanting to waste more time that the self destruct could be activated in he makes his way to the holding cells door.  Gripping the piece of wood with white knuckles he cracks the door open and slips in, the main lights in the room have broken and all he can see by is the dimly blinking blue warning lights.  Suddenly he hears crashing as the specimens in the cages go wild and start smashing themselves against the bars, panicking Alexandre runs for the far door which opens onto the central staircases.  Luckily the specimens in this area are all small animals and none of them break free before he clears the door into the lite staircase.  Though just as he shuts the door behind himself he can hear metal screeching and giving way, followed by the clacking of claws on the hard floor as something runs towards the doors.  Thinking quickly he slides the piece of wood into the handles of the doors and runs for the stairs.  Taking them by leaps and bounds he barely manages to get to the next level before the piece of wood holding the specimens back shatters into a hundred pieces.
Alexandre turns and bolts through the door onto level 14, hitting the emergency lock on the inside of the door after he gets out of the stairwell.  He looks around slowly and does not see any movement or signs that other people have been here, though someone was working when the alarms went off though there is no sign of them now.  Level 14 itself is a massive open floor, that is deceptively larger than the other floors with far higher ceilings and no walls between the work stations.  The open dunk vats bubble slowly as they always do, with the chains and cages hanging above them, that they use to contain the specimens before the forced mutation processes begin.  Other areas take on the appearance of bomb bunkers with enclosed metal areas used to test the airborne contagions and even being on this floor without the bio-hazard suits is incredibly unsafe.  Pipework and chemical work benches take up the space on each side of the walking path and some overhanging gangways made of metal grates cut over top of the entire area, a secondary staircase leads to the next level up a series of ladders for use by the technicians coming from the mainframe work-area.  While there is still elevator access past the vats and workbenches, as well as the high security storage some wheres on the floor that should house the potential cure to any sort of mutagen infection as well as some bio-hazard suits should Alexandre want to spend more time.  Otherwise a sample of various mutagen vats would prove to be valuable once the facility no longer exists, though should the self destruct activate now even a break neck run wouldn't let Alexandre escape in time.

Let's get some samples and a new weapon while we're at it. Then get a bio-hazard suit.

I second the previous comment.
The priority is cure - hazmat suit - any valuable samples. Getting some sort of flashlight, weapon or acess cards in the process is gonna be nice, too.

+1

Also, contemplate just how many digits we're going to ask for in the ensuing lawsuit.
