Adventurer visiting your Dwarf Fortress.
« on: May 25, 2013, 04:13:56 pm »

If you give up on a fortress and start a new one, immigrants from the first fortress will come.
If you give up on a fortress and start an adventure, you may explore your old ruins.
If you give up on an adventurer... You starve and die.

Doesnt seem fair.

On my opinion i would prefer that if i give up on an adventurer, he will ´´continue`` to travel, simulated of course.

My fortress is being attacked by some goblins, my militia wont be able to hold them off, when suddenly that demigod elf adventurer i forgot about appears, having leveled up during the time i left him, he helps the militia defeat the goblins, stays on your fortress a few nights, then goes off to search other adventures around the world.

This doesnt mean your adventurer will survive, he may die during the simulation, which occurs as the event that causes adventurer to appear triggers it, causing the event to be ignored.

The number of changes in general and chance of survival depends how he was when you left him, and how much time has happened since then.
If you left a elf adventurer 20 years ago, who knows. Maybe he became a necromancer! But if you left him barely one year ago, i dont think a lot happened to him, unless it was a really crazy year.

once you can retire fortresses, retired adventurers may move there.

This already happens, in a fashion. A dwarven adventurer retired in a dwarven fortress can come as a migrant to a player-controlled dwarven fortress of the same civilization, much as any historical figure. It'd be nice if adventurers went on adventuring after they retire, though. Now they just sit on their assess unless a dwarven fortress picks them to arbitrarily move halfway across the world. Well, you might not always want it to happen. When I retire an adventurer, I kind of assume that he'll still be around in ten years once my latest fortress crumbles. Although it might be cool for him to show up somewhere else, having grown more powerful, it would be kind of a downer if he turned up dead or missing both his legs.

Actually, this is an excellent idea, particularly if their behavior is based on your own (though you should toggle this). Hilarious fun, given the presumed commonality of... esoteric practices >:D.

I added this to DF Eternal Suggestion Voting. If you like this more than other suggestions there (You gotta be a weird person to prefer this over that), vote for it :)

Having your fortress ransacked by sneaky adventurer? Count me in.

Cool, but wouldn't this likely lead to tongues having a '[SPEACH]' tag, and thus via necromancy we would have nearly unkillable reanimated tongues following necromancers spamming 'it is sad but not unexpected'?
