B12 War of the Worlds : Freeform RPG [9/25/88; 0930]
« on: April 30, 2013, 09:50:07 pm »

Tarlson's Cove is a small coastal town, somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. During the summer, the town is filled with tourists - typically filling the beaches or walking through the many hiking trails in the steep hills just outside of town. There's not many amenities in town, only a few bars, a few hotels, and a few restaurants. The scenery around town is beautiful but gets very repetitive, so the typical person who passes through will call it "pretty" and leave it there.

Starting in September, the town empties out rapidly, and only a few locals stay throughout the winter. Our game begins at 9:30 AM on September 25th, 1988. It's pleasantly warm, and very few clouds in they sky right now.

Rules of the Game :
#1 - This is a freeform roleplaying game with a small bit of moderation. First, I will post time updates periodically. Look in the main thread title. The typical timestep will be 3 hours , so when you make a post, try to keep this in mind. You can always start an action and interrupt later. 2 : I wlll play the first character to report the invasion and everyone else can react from there.
#2 - The aliens invade the town shortly after sunset (roughly 4 turns of setup roleplaying)
#3 - Please fill out a character sheet and update to aid everyone in locating characters and roleplaying opportunities. I will post one immediately below this.
#4 - Please remember the setting. This is 1988. Cellphones are extremely uncommon, HAM radio is the only easy way of mobile communication. There's not an internet connection in the whole town.

Frank takes a glass down from the cabinet and fills it with soda from the fountain. He walks to the window and looks outside.
"Town looks really empty today... I guess the season is finally over. Better get this place cleaned up."
He's the owner of the aptly named Frank's Cafe, right on the center of Main Street. It's a tiny hole in the wall cafe, nestled in between a bookstore and a squat apartment building. There's only a few tables, a coffee pot, and a kitchen which is only barely visible from the main part of the cafe.

Frank sits the glass on an empty table and picks up a newspaper. Today's headline is  "Scientists turn on Radio Telescope on Mirror Hill today at 5PM. Another $20 million telescope planned for next summer". He casually tosses the newspaper down and exclaims,  "I don't got time for this crap. I'll settle for selling a few sandwiches today. Lemme see. $20 milllion, vs. $20. Local economy booming, indeed."

Frank tends to the cafe, occasionally serving a coffee to go to the few random people who walk in.

Johnny went down Willow Lane, picking up the trash bags and sweeping the floors. His community service uniform was now filthy and grimy.

"This is bullshit. All I did was taught a couple of nerds a lesson. I didn't mean to kill Lenny! That bastard Jim is going to pay for squealing!" Johnny said out loud. It didn't matter anyway, since virtually no one was near him.

He looked up at the bleak grey sky; it was very cloudy today. No birds, no cars. In fact, why was he still doing community service? No one would squeal. Johnny took of his community service vest and bolted down to his friends place. Occasionally ducking when he could see someone walking down the street.

Finally, he made it to his friends house. He threw stones at his friend's window, whispering loudly.

"Danny! Psst, Danny!"

No reply. He must have went out. Wait, Danny never leaves his house except for school or to hang out. Where could he be?
