'Replace artifacts' option in uniforms
« on: May 01, 2013, 05:16:48 pm »

I don't like it when a dwarf has an artifact equipped (be it a mood one or a titled one) and you have to fuss over their uniform to keep the artifact while changing everything else. So I think there should be an option to completely apply a new uniform, or apply it except where it conflicts with an artifact.

Finding an artifact would be simple enough -- look for anything without an item type in its name, or maybe have the equipment screen read an 'is artifact' flag -- but discerning conflicts and the player's intentions would be rather harder. Perhaps just apply the whole uniform without removing the artifacts, and let the player sort out the individual conflicts by deleting redundant items (it's better than sorting out everything else, as you have to do at the moment). Or pop up a dialogue box for every dwarf who's had a uniform applied while having an artifact equipped, and let the player sort out the conflicts there.

'Conflicts' is a rather strong word, and may not be the correct one anyway. 'Annoyances' is about the right level, but rather too vague...

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

While I have never had this problem, I do agree that would be annoying and it doesn't seem that hard to fix.

The option to apply ("uniform"-defined or perhaps single/multiple "copy/pastey" designations) items to an equipment manifest without clearing the existing set (lets you manually remove the five cloaks that were unnecessarily added to the existing five already worn, and stuff like that) would suit me, and probably this thread's suggestion as well.

Recently I mentioned something of a "do not disturb the held weapon" Uniform application method (because I like to easily standardise my uniform sans-weapon, across all units, but then make sure they have the weapon specific to their skill/unit.  This, also, would benefit from a "weaponless uniform" that could be applied in a manner that doesn't disturb the current array of allocations, then check the ticked items (would include the weapon, possibly half of the cloaks, one of the two sets of high boots, etc) and easily remove the superfluous.  (Or, I could see myself doing, setting up "Cloak allocation" uniform, "Metal Legwear allocation" uniform, "Full Head-protecting" uniform, etc, then picking and choosing according to needs and possibilities.

Sorry, waffling now.

This feels like "It's on the list please be patient." territory but, yeah the whole interface needs to be cleaned up. Blood, books, bone meal, ect. shouldn't even show up if they don't have a function or in some cases are simply in the raws for instance. As effective "Gods" we need as much flexibility as makes sense for The Great Armok The Toad to give us
