Actually throwing enemies in combat
« on: May 25, 2013, 05:25:10 am »

Although I know it's kind of buggy atm, compare throwing a live goblin via wrestling versus throwing his corpse.
I know that throwing distance is going to be adjusted to reflect the weight of the thrown object (I hope at least), but why not let us truly throw enemies into walls or across rivers etc. with the throw menu?
Of course a peasant wouldn't throw someone further than one tile, but why not let us satisfy our vampiric and demigodly needs of helping the companions cross the rivers by throwing them to the other side? (with a slight possibility of throwing them to the "spiritual" other side AKA killing them in the process)

i agree.  i've always wanted to throw an enemy that almost killed me, but i managed to cripple, off a cliff.

You wake up in (suddenly) your room not somewhere Armok knows where. Travels in deserts and goblin forests turned up to be a dreams borned by procreation of your autistic imagination.

Strangle the king, pick him up, go down a mineshaft and throw him into the Circus for an epic show to unravel in short order.
Imagine that.

You can do that if you capture them in a cage. I love digging huge holes up to 50 tiles deep, designating a pit/pond at the top and throwing goblin and troll prisoners in. Am I insane for loving to read the reports of them splatting at the bottom? I dont think so.

This would be a part of fleshing out wrestling in general one would imagine. A potential great use for this would be to cram an explosive device of some sort down a goblin's throat and the throwing them into a group of their friends. Of course this has an inverse: large enemies could potentially use one of your dwarves to break a hole in your wall or send your adventurer to a spectacular end.... but that has it's own merits.  :D

being able to direct the... direction.. of your throws is planned, i think, and if you're big enough or strong enough you can throw an enemy quite a distance as-is, just on a random vector.  my first thought, however, is: suplexes.  if you're strong enough to actually do it (conditioned to ridiculous levels, a vampire, or some other uber-strong supernatural being), then being able to execute flamboyant or otherwise flashy throws could serve to intimidate nearby enemies.  if you're fighting a dude and he picks up your 100 kilo musclebound friend by the neck and throws him into a nearby river or powerbombs him through a live jaguar or something then, frankly, fuck fighting that guy, particularly if you're unarmed or not a part of a well-disciplined group.  might get you pumped-up (HULKAMANIA!) if you do something that shows your complete superiority to your opponent whilst giving them a penalty to their rolls due to their fighting spirit being somewhat dampened by their comrades' broken bodies flying into trees and shit.

yes i want to role-play kane.
