Dark Human Fortress?

What defines a dark fortress? I was just generating a new world when I came across a dark human fortress on my map. I thought they could only be goblin.

It would have started as a goblin settlement, then at some point during history it was taken over by humans. It happens.

Hello!

Indeed, taking over settlements of all other races is a major advantage humans have during world gen. Dwarves can take over elven settlements and I think goblin settlements, but I am not sure about the latter. Elves and goblins can not take over any alien settlements.

Watching world gen during wars can be very exciting, especially when elven and human civs of comparative strength are pitted against each other: When humans conquer an elven settlement, they deforest the surrounding area, turning the woods into hills or plains. If the elves succeed in driving out the human occupiers, they will re-plant the trees, turning the surrounding area into forests again. During long-lasting conflicts, you can thus see the areas switching back and forth several times.

Yours,

That reminds me. I look forward to having free-running migrants coming from a elf city one way or another one of these days.
