can i also make my mayor my baron?
« on: April 21, 2013, 11:34:37 pm »

so i have a awesome mayor who doesnt make me wanna kill her at all since she has no preference for items and therefore only makes demands and never any mandates. She was also elected by the dwarven people and is one of my strongest fighters, also being the militia commander and leading a squad of 4 legendary elite marksdwarves (herself included). She also has the best skills suited for being mayor in my fort, at professional consoler.

i think i will get the chance of becoming a barony next season since i have 8 million created wealth and almost 200k exported wealth. So can i also make my mayor my baron? she already has a royal throne room, dining room, and bedroom due to a artifact armor stand in it (which she shares with my captain of the guard) and i just need to add a artifact coffin which i already have to give her a royal mausoleum.

if its possible to make her my baron as well then this would be the first time that i can become barony and then eventually a duchy, if its not possible then i'll probly make someone else mayor for the duration of the liason's next visit just before he shows up so i can make my (former) mayor the baroness.

Yep, completely possible and cuts down on the number of offices you need.

You can, though keep in mind that mayors get elected. So she will eventually probably lose her mayor post anyway.

my vote's the only one that really counts though, and she suprisingly doesnt have any friends and doesnt know that many ppl, i think the game auto-chose her because she had the best skill for mayor and professional consoler, no other dwarves even had the consoler skill.

would he as baron get angry that the mayor has 'such a luxurious office/bedroom/dining room" even if that is him?

No, never.

If you keep your noble out of harm's way and allow them much free time, they'll typically end up socialising like crazy and turn into the best candidate for mayor anyway. It helps if you pick a parent of many kids (and leave the kids alive :P ). I've had a bunch of forts where the noble was also the mayor.

The only problem could be the status as military commander. There are some bugs with ennobling dwarfs in the military. It seems that if a dwarf is elevated while doing some military activity (training, on duty, possibly archery practice), they can get stuck somehow and fail to pick proper jobs/attend to their administrative duties. You can still draft a noble to a military squad _after_ they've been elevated.

hmm this may be a problem for me indeed...as for my forts my nobles (at least the super-important ones) MUST be from the military, and preferably be the strongest/one of the strongest. I dont have any active training or patrolling duties though, and manually train my military by stationing them at one of my forgotten beast pits. I dont usually have my mayor as active military since my elite squad doesnt require much more training and is used as reserves.
