I want to ask forsaken1111, don't you mess normal play and crutches?

For example, I have lumberjack. I want him to cut down trees. So, I'm going to Therapist and turn out all secondary jobs, to ought him do it immediately. OK, I have enough wood for now, and this idiot will just idle... Probably some time already. I'm going to therapist and turn on secondary jobs (oops, i forgot, what he hauled previous time? and what secondary job was, certainly? ehrr...). And this is only one dwarf and one kind of job.

Normal play: dwarf understand, there is job, he need to do first.
Crutches: player emulate dwarf intellect and do it by own hand and time.

No one will argue this is impossible. But I hope you catch my idea. At least dwarfs is intelligent creatures, not a flock of ewes you need to point to directly.

I usually have 2 dedicated lumberjacks and I designate large areas of the maps to woodcutting. Why would I care that he's idling when there are no trees to cut? He's good at cutting wood. When I don't need him to cut wood, he doesn't.

I'm really have nothing to say to you... But let me one short analogy.
What's going on in this thread:
"This nails are so hard to drive in! I want a hammer!"
"Hey, you don't need any hammer. There is stone."
"But it is uncomfortable!"
"What for you need hammer? You already have stone."
"Stone make callous! I want hammer!"
"Just take it that way, stupid! And you actually don't need any hammer, 'cause you already have stone!"
"..."
I have no intent to further debate with you. Good luck.

I didn't say anyone was stupid, I just disagreed with the claim that the game is 'unplayable'.

This is made more problematic by the fact that we also don't of Towns' standing orders feature yet, so we need to keep giving the same orders over, and over, and over again.

Actually I feel Workflow for DFHack is more sophisticated than standing orders in Towns. See the features described here.

A while back I started working on a job priority plugin. It works on principle, but due to the way the game does job assignment I need to do a lot more work on it to make it efficient... so I had to put it aside due to not having enough free time. Might still pick that up again one day and see if I can finish it.
