I've recruited retired adventurers before, but never had a quest to kill one. They will rebuff you (ha! Such enthusiasm!) if they are more powerful then you though.

You could form an army to confront her. A vampire army. Regular soldiers are under equipped and lack skills and will just die and be 'necromanced' into fighting you instead, but you could start new adventurers, put some decent armor and weapons on them, afflict them with vampirism and retire them someplace like a fortress where they will be easy to find and recruit.
