How does one go about melting Ice using Magma?
« on: February 23, 2008, 03:51:00 pm »

Yes, this is related to my other topic.  I've dug a room above some magma, and dumped ice next to channels that are open to magma, but it doesn't seem to be melting.  I want to get water on the floor to turn it into farmland, but no luck so far...

Edit: temperature on, weather off, by the way.

Edit 2: in addition to the channel, the rooms is directly above the magma.

There are two methods I'm familair with.
1) magma, make a room full of magma directly under the ice, no channels needed.
This produces usable water in addition to mud.

2)drop mined ice blocks from at least one story using the dump command.
An alternate method is to cave the ice in. This will melt the ice into unusable water, which will make the ground muddy.

Hmm, my dwarves refuse to dump water, although I think I'm playing v.38b
