Splinterz Dwarf Therapist Animal Nicknames Bug
« on: April 11, 2013, 09:56:52 pm »

So, I'm using Splinterz version of Dwarf Therapist and am having an issue with nicknames. I want to nickname my poults and chicks to keep track of when they'll be full grown and ready for butchering, but the nicknames I assign them don't stick; they disappear and the animals go back to just "poult" and "chick."

Anyone have any idea how to fix this?

You can't ever nickname animals, can you?

I think the bug here is that DT lets you give animals nicknames.

I know it's not the same, but why not just use DFHack's autobutcher plugin? I think it's amazing, and you don't have to actively manage it at all.

Use DFHack's rename tool instead, that work more reliably for nicknaming. DT used to have a problem with squad members losing nicknames after a while; I thought it was fixed by now but maybe it's only fixed for dwarves and not for pets? Reason is that the name of a creature is stored at various places (in the creature, in it's soul, possibly in it's historcal figure data, ...) and DT didn't cover all of them, so the nicknames can revert.
