Good off-brand or older tablets?
« on: May 13, 2013, 07:48:51 pm »

EDIT: Uh oh, put this in the wrong forum!

Hey Bay12ers, I'm looking to buy a tablet computer. I love my netbook for typing, DF, YouTube and such, but at school or just out and about I find it slow to boot up if I want to look something up or show a picture really quick. Being a neophyte to tablets and Nooks and iDevices and whatever you younguns have nowadays, I have no idea what's old, what's new, what's good, what's bad, etc. etc.

Around the Internet at various Asian import sites I've seen off-brand tablets for less than $100 USD, but my sister bought one of these once and it was almost totally unusable. However, I have heard rumors and rumblings that some of these tablets might not be so bad, based on Amazon reviews and Ashens' review of this cheapo thing. However, I'd like to know which of the <= $100 tablets is the best.

If nobody knows of these or if they're all pretty bad, I'd put up a bit more for an older generation name-brand tablet. If anybody can suggest one of these that is notably cheap or high-quality, I'd like to hear about these as well.

In general, I'm looking for respectable screen size (6"-10"), super-responsive touch control, battery life (assuming it's in sleep mode most of the day), and a decent number of working modern apps. Not the latest and greatest hi-res games in the App Store, just stuff like Netflix or Temple Run.

My wife and I have a couple of iPads laying around. Our first generation one is still doing great and I use it all the time to stream meadia from my pc and the occasional game. Some of the android tablets are decent but I would still recommend the iPad even though I am not an apple fan.

Just so you know, the cheaper they are the more delicate they are. I dropped a 99$ tablet ON MY THICK BLANKET, and the glass was cracked all over and the power button was stuck in. Keep in mind I treated the thing like it was made of glass strapped together with spit and hope, which it actually turned out to be.

135 dollars is the sweet spot here, it will be enough for a android4.0 and dual core with 7.0in

WARNING
I just noticed you posted for netflix, netflix requires the use of a google authorized device and most cheapo tablets can't support them
