Stray bolts?
« on: March 03, 2007, 04:03:00 pm »

I have two questions concerning crossbow bolts:

1.) When training at an archery range, lets say a dwarf misses the target he is DIRECTLY lined up with, BUT he inadvertently hits the ADJACENT  target. Will he get any experience points for hitting that?

2.) In combat, if a dwarf misses his INTENDED shot, and the bolt goes slightly to the left, lets say towards a goblin, Will that stray shot hit the other goblin even though it wasn't intended to?

1) I think they gain experience just by firing.

2) Yeah, the shot will hit unintended, non-friendly targets.  I'd prefer getting friendly fire into the game as well, but it would require a bit more work with LOS calcs and their AI.

wait a sec. there is NO friendly fire?

I always was scared shitless when some hapless hauler (or even a legendary something-or-other) would pluck out the bolts from the target while a marksdwarf was using this very same target for practice.

Now I understand why there never was an accident.

LOL, I kinda figured it was no friendly fire after about the 500th crossbow bolt fired across a cleaning dwarf's nose   ;)

Come to think of it, it kinda makes rescue missions when goblins have kidnapped my children easier.  No chance of hitting the child.
