Human and Elven Caravans
« on: April 20, 2008, 06:02:00 pm »

They didn't show up the second year... does this mean they'll never show up at all? Only the dwarven caravan shows up.  (on the other hand, a small wave of migrants seems to come every season, at about the time the caravan might do so).  Is that related?  Migrants instead of caravans?

It's possible that your site is isolated by some sort of natural barrier, like water or a mountain range. Do you have a screenshot of your site on the world map?

Dwarf caravans, as well as migrants, will always arrive regardless of terrain.

no screenshot, but it was in the mountains, as I recall.  Is there a way to take a look at the world map once you've started?  Or a way to see if your site is isolated before you start?

Pity, because I got tonnes of stone crappe i need to pawn off on some traders.

You can make a copy of the world, and find your embarkation point again. To get the seed and dimensions of the world you made, hit Escape and choose to export images of your fort; this will also create a text file containing the worldgen parameters you used. Copy those parameters into the "create new world with parameters" worldgen option from the main menu and you'll get the same world back out.

Or just copy your world and abandon the fort in one copy. You can then go to the abandoned fort via the reclaim option (R). Once you've done this, delete the world and restore your non-abandoned copy.

Edit: To find your neighboring civs, press tab several times once you've found your fort's site. (I should give out more relevant advice.)

ah, sure enough; thanks for the tip about tabbing through info screens; seems handy.  Only dwarves and gobbos are my neighbors, guess i'll have to make do with only one caravan per year.  Can't have everything, I guess, and i'll have to make do with magma, flux, tonnes of iron, and lots of skeletal wolves to practice on.
