2 items in 1 hand?
« on: March 11, 2013, 06:23:08 pm »

A soldier lost her foot in a fight.

In her left hand: birchen crutch
In her right hand: copper shield & bronze short sword

Did I come across a bug? Is she carrying the items and unable to use them? Is a shield "strapped on" the hand instead of "in" the hand?

Regardless, she's acting wonderfully dwarfy. What a trooper.

crutches act more like prostetic legs. However, try adventure mode sometime and see how many things you can hold in one hand and you'll realise dwarfs are lazy

It might be adressed at some point. It's not really a bug, just DF being a bit weird here and there

Jam a door with its corpse and let all the goblins in. Hey, nobody said it had to be a weapon against your enemies.

Yeah, this isn't that uncommon actually.  Probably not an intended feature and one that will get addressed at some point, but for now there is no restriction on how many things can go in a hand apparently.  Specifically getting dwarves to pick up more than one thing in a hand is less reliable though, I believe.

Currently a dwarf can hold a weapon, a shield and a crutch in the same hand. I think that's intended that way, for now.

Could a mother hold her baby and a shield in one hand while a weapon in another hand? I'm a newbie

Yes. There are no limitations to held items.

Assign a military unit 20 shields and watch what happens.  Dwarf logic. :P

I like this feature/bug. My most successful dwarven soldier lost his arm in the first siege to a cave crocodile. After running for a bit, he turned around and bashed its head in with his shield, then proceeded to fight the squad of mounted goblins to a standstill until help arrived.

Has almost seventy kills, so I dubbed him 2(squad number)-6(position in squad) Ace. That might not be a lot compared to other forts, but its a lot considering I have a fifty dwarf standing Military.

There is currently a minor problem in that the veteran demons fighting in the corpse factory have failed to die in the 2 year battle and have become legendary unkillable gods of war. I may have misjudged this possible outcome.
