I'm a n00b. I'm on my first successful(ish) fort and still learning the quirks and mechanics of the game. I dove in using the latest Lazy Newb Pack.
I'm having a persistent graphics problem. As I play, individual blocks (tiles?) go black. The glitched blocks persist in the same locations in the same menus. The longer I play, more blocks go black. None go un-black unless I quit and reload. Zooming in and out temporarily fixes it in some menus but it is inconsistent and impermanent. Resizing the window does not help. Upon loading my saved game, some blocks are already black in menus, but more glitch out as I scroll through lists. I notice them most on the right column in detailed mode in the stocks menu, the menu for bringing items to the trade depot, the trading menu, and the units menu. Come to think of it, it appears to be the right-most lists on all of those, but I am not 100% certain that's exclusively true. To be clear, it's the particular spot on the screen and persists in the same place as I scroll through the menu. The spots differ for different menus but persist between closing and reopening those menus.
This may or may not be a separate issue: When in some menus, as I scroll through a list, specific lines in that list have part of the line go black. For instance, in the military menu, if I move down through my list of squads or list of members of a squad, parts of candidates' names disappear. The gray border blocks on the right edge of the screen on the same line as some of the affected names also go black. Those border blocks never return. If I switch to a different window and then back to DF or zoom in and out, the lines are restored temporarily. If I scroll through the list of candidates, the lines will reappear as I highlight them. When I pgdown through the candidates list, nothing goes black except the entire chunk of gray border on the right of the screen in line with ALL candidates' names.
EVEN WORSE (!!): Workshop queues are flipping out. When I add things to a workshop's queue, the R or S (repeat, suspended) show up when I activate them, but as soon as I scroll down to the next item in the queue, they disappear. They do not show up if I open up the queue on affected workshops. I can get them to reappear by highlighting the line, deactivating, and reactivating repeat or suspend, but the symbols disappear as soon as I move to another line or close the menu. It happens inconsistently on all workshops (I think) and gets worse the longer I play. Like the other menu glitches, the border (z-level indicator) blocks on the right edge of the screen in line with the missing symbols are black while in that workshop's menu. Some workshops (one jeweler, my smelter, and my ashery) consistently have this problem through save/quit/reloads. Zooming has no effect. Other workshops are hit and miss. What is weirder is that some workshops have the issue for the full queue list, others just have it for, say, the first line, or the first and third lines.
I have tried (using LNP) switching from Ironhand to Phoebus graphics packs. No change in the above behaviors.
Possibly relevant info: I updated dfhack to latest version (by overwriting existing files), added the DFHack "Utility Plugins For UI Improvement" from
http://dffd.wimbli.com/file.php?id=7248 (then disabling dwarfmonitor by renaming the dll because I couldn't convince it to stay disabled between sessions), switched to splinterz's branched DT, and changed PRINT_MODE and TEXTURE_PARAM in the init file to try to combat these glitches (I switched PRINT_MODE back to 2D because the couple settings I tried didn't seem to help). I guess I fiddled with population cap, aquifer, and savegame settings through the LNP interface too. I have LNP Advanced v15 straight from DFFD. I'm running on a Windows 8 x64, AMD-based, quad-core gaming system. My favorite color is blue. I like limestone and cats but detest mussels. I can't think of any other relevant information to include. Let me know if there is further information I could provide.
Are these all the same issue? Anyone have any clues as to what's wrong or how to fix it?
