Musical Willpower
« on: March 26, 2013, 01:35:36 am »

I'm looking for songs that are good for general focused study.

They must neither be too calm thus making me fall asleep, nor must they be too exciting as that will be disruptive to thinking.

Here's a decent compilation of music I found that was good for listening to while doing problems.

Somewhat tangential, but you might check out binaural beats. I've had pretty good study luck with SBaGen before, m'self. Have to play around a bit to see what sample or mix of samples (running two or three concurrently makes for some interesting times) works for you, but it might be worth a shot. Can also try running them in concert with actual music. Done that before, can be neat.

I use chiptunes to work by. No lyrics, so they don't catch my active attention unless I want them to, but upbeat enough that I'm alert and awake.

Touhou instrumentals for me, but i fear most of the ones i like fall in the "too exciting" to concentrate side of things.

Even with lyrics, being in a foreign language could mean that you treat the lyrics as just another instrument. The popular version of "Bad Apple" is kind of in the middle, neither too relaxing nor too exciting, but quite upbeat. How does this one work for you:

Some ambient music maybe? Try this or this one.
