chance of stone drop modable?
« on: March 08, 2013, 01:07:58 pm »

Is the chance of a mined away tile leaving a stone modable via the RAWs? It really annoys me that 75% of all stone mined away magically disintegrates. I know dwarven physics is insane, but still...

I'm pretty sure it's hard-coded, though it might be possible to create a costum reaction to 'make' stone if you really have a shortage, which is slightly hard to imagine as long as you use blocks whenever you can.

The people who frequent the modding forum-part are more likely to be able to help there than most people here

i have been wondering about this myself

i have had a few embarks with just a tiny bit of economic stone, like marble, in one recent fort, it took a huge multi-z level dig to just outfit one squad with steel gear

also i have never had too much obsidian, 1/4th the amount mined means i often need to build obsidian generators, even on maps that have obsidian, just because what used to be a convinient amount, is now a microscopic amount

i do like that i have less clutter of general stone though, i do NOT miss having forts with 10.000+ basalt cluttered all over every corridor

you can mod the steel reaction to take flux blocks instead of rocks iirc

You can't mod the drop-rate of the stones, but you can mod reactions to take whatever inputs you like and output whatever outputs you like. For example there is the Blockcrafter's Workshop mod that adds a workshop that can make many common stone items, chairs, doors, crafts etc. out of blocks. You get 4 blocks per rock without modding (you could of course make a custom reaction that turns a rock into any number of blocks you'd like if you'd rather) so you end up using fractions of a rock for each of those things instead of the whole thing. I'm using that mod with a few tweaks to the ratios and it's working great.

For flux, yes, it's a bit of a bugger. You could mod the reaction to take blocks as suggested, or mod it to take 4x the normal amount of bars and a flux rock and produce 4x as much steel.

TL;DR: You can't mod the drop rate of stone but you can add custom reactions to turn anything you like into anything you like, so knock yourself out on that side!
