So, any plans for adventure mode in the next big version?
« on: February 18, 2013, 09:05:14 pm »

If there's an existing thread about this I missed, I'll shave my beard and bump it.

I spent some time catching up on development plans, and thought I'd ask what the rest of you are looking to do when adventure mode gets beefed up. For me, I have an idea to mix thief, trader, and explorer roles in a somewhat silly way:

1. Start as a kobold with an updated Kobold Camp mod.
2. Build/steal caravan.
3. Buy/steal finest clothing I can find that'll fit me. (Might be tricky.)
4. Visit/steal distant lands for trade.
5. Buy/steal the best weapons, tools, and metal bars I can.
6. Return home and give them to my tribe's chieftain in tribute.

The mental image I have while in distant lands: I'm in a noble's dining room, drinking with him. *Monocle pop* "Savage kobolds? My word, this continent is absolutely topsy-turvy. Back in my floating island hometown on the other side of the world (so don't trouble yourself with checking for it), Notmadeupington, we're all quite civilized and dapper. Oh, and I'm here to buy a rather large quantity of steel ingots. It's an ingredient in mythril, you know. We'd forge our own, but there aren't many heavy ores in our floating island. Aside from all the gold, of course. Oh, I see you have a black bronze scimitar, studded with turquoise and engraved with images of itself displayed on that weapon rack, there. How droll. Guard that treasure well, since you never know what shady hooligans might take a shine to it."

Step 7: Retire, switch to fortress/camp mode, don war paint, conquer nearby elf civ with a surprisingly well-armed kobold army.

I'm looking forward to climbing.  Gonna make a human outsider wrestler who leaps naked through the treetops.  Hoping I can wrestle someone up into a tall tree, then toss them out and watch their bodies break on the ground.

Make sure you've got a loincloth and a stone spear at some point and become Tarzan :D

After posting my kobold thief/merchant idea, it occurred to me that he's kind of a gentleman thief mixed with Robin Hood. Definitely need to find the most dapper outfit he can possibly wear.

Guard: Kobold thief! He stole the Fondness of Crenelations and vanished!

Sheriff: What did he look like?

Guard: He was wearing a giant cave spider silk suit, a pair of silk trousers, a pair of Forgotten Beast leather shoes decorated with cut turquoise, a platinum crown decorated with cut sapphires, and an ermine fur cape decorated with a image of a dog in rope reed fiber. The dog is looking backwards.

Sheriff: ...You've been huffing nether cap spores again, haven't you?

If the thief role is expanded, I hope it comes with stuff worth stealing. Besides gear there's really nothing to have. I'm also hoping we will be able to build lairs of sorts, so I can have a throne room where adventurers try to take my head.

But besides that, I'll probablly just try to throw people off buildings. I really want to see some peasant fall on some religious figure and see if the civilization turns on him.

Given the trader role, it'll probably be easier to convert non-gear into money to buy better gear. There'll also be artifacts from world gen, and mansions for nobles, presumably full of stuff to steal. If building doesn't enter adventure mode, you might be able to buy your own mansion if you get rich enough from stealing.

Hmm... Given all the direct cruelties adventure mode players typically indulge in with violence, I wonder what indirect economic cruelties will be possible for a wealthy trader.

I'm going to start a human knife-thrower who massacres entire towns... Using only what knives he has... In order to collect more knives from his victims.

Also, I might build a kickass dungeon fitted with lava pits, weapon traps and a crap ton of gold items; retire that fort, and then send in a sneaky guy to plunder my own fortress.

Train the hell out of whatever skills jumping and climbing use, then become Batman.
