I just discovered something interesting about Artifacts...

Apparently after you reclaim the site they were built in, they don't show up on the (l) Artifacts screen and can be traded.

Certainly makes those cotton candy earrings slightly less disappointing.
Though... I, personally, have not gotten cc earrings. Or cc anything.  :'(

Stockpile management is your friend.  Or a dirty filthy exploit either way.

As for selling them, If memory serves (it often does not) they can indeed be sold, but if an artifact is stored in a bin it behaves oddly when traded.  here it is

And the wiki article has a one line blurb about them disappearing from the list, but that is about it.

Note to self: Forbid all unused artifacts and mark the bins to be dumped.
