New Game+: Zelda meets Dark Souls

The next game from Jasper Bryne, the guy who did Lone Survivor.

Not a whole lot is known about the game as it stands now. It's a little Secret of Mana, I guess, an adventure game done in the 16-bit style. And it was cancelled, according to Bryne, because he thought he had gotten too ambitious with the project and couldn't finish it. Well, he's since changed his mind I guess, because it's back in the news, featuring a multiplayer versus mode.

I don't have a whole lot to say about the game because there's not a whole lot to say...but I definitely like the theme and the art style, and I enjoyed Lone Survivor enough that I'd be willing to see what else he can do.

There's some over-the-shoulder video of the game in the article.

Its kinda silly to complain that a friendly NPC isn't a well designed boss fight.

Some more details about the game. Bryne says his three biggest inspirations for the game are the Legend of Zelda, Dark Souls and Dungeon Master. 3 games I like a lot. His like of Dungeon Master manifests in his game so far as a lot of pitfall traps, monsters following you down pits and staying there to meet you later if you happen to knock them in. I assume that also means pit traps with high quality items inside them as well.

He says he wants to keep the RPG side of the game as simple as possible, with basically 4 or 5 equipment slots tops, and no inventory full of crap to use. The game will have up to 4 player co-op and versus.

It's sounding like a mish-mash of a lot of great game ideas. Not sure how it's going to all pan out, and he plans to keep a lot of the game close to his chest until release. But all signs point to this being something enjoyable.
