I was going to make this thread but I didn't know how much drama everyone honestly was interested in.

It looks really bad for Gearbox. The biggest developer of the 5 to touch the game, they only worked on MP. The SP was so badly done, so over budget on memory on the PS3, that the initial levels shown in teh demos had to be stripped and reworked. Then there's Gearbox basically letting BL2 eat into the development time of ACM, because they knew BL2 would make them money while ACM was going to be a train wreck no matter what they did.

I think ACM kind of exemplifies the worst case scenario for a major IP in the games industry. Farmed out to several different dev houses until it feels like a Frankenstein of a game, years of wasted development effort, demos that look far better than the actual game and everyone eventually washing their hands for the responsibility of a good game. 20th Century Fox must be fucking pissed, Sega must be fucking pissed (even though they effectively set the time table. But 6 years is insanely generous for a AAA publisher, or just about any publisher.)

It's like the franchise is cursed or something, by the last AvP2 dev. I'll probably pick it up, one day, so I can co-op with a friend. I REALLY doubt the game is going to get any significant updates beyond the pre-planned DLC (done by a 3rd dev house), but at $5 to $10 I can live with how bad it is. At $50, no way in hell.

I'm pretty sure Sega released information saying Gearbox worked on both single and multi, though.

Fake edit : yep : http://news.softpedia.com/news/Aliens-Colonial-Marines-Single-Player-Wasn-t-Outsourced-Sega-Says-329158.shtml

It looks bad, but I'd say Gearbox kind of deserve it. Borderlands 1's pc port was horrible, Borderlands 2 is nice, but DNF is horrible, and, well, this is not good either. They also had a review embargo until after the game was released, right? Sorry mates, you can't do this. Screw you.

Yeah, GBX claims they worked on 80% of the SP. The other dev house that supposedly had responsibility for it claims that's BS though, that they did 80% of the work on SP and GBX only swooped in at the last minute to try and salvage it before release. There's a lot of finger pointing going on, trying to lay the blame for the SP campaign on someone.

So sad how this turned out. I was looking forward to it as well. I tried booting up AvP2010 just now to get some xenomorph action that is, while not good, at least passable but I quickly got reminded why I never played that version for long. The narrow FoV is giving me headaches and there doesn't seem to be any way around it (atleast not from my googling and I could not find a good way to fix it myself other than running three monitors which apparently automatically ups the FOV.)

Oddly enough I prefer the aliens to be more fragile yet destructive.

So I'll stick with the very first Aliens Versus Preditor as oddly enough the best in the series. Why is it odd? because it at this point had a dirrect sequel that was outright inferior.

YET! there are moments where the other games really shine (playing the Face Hugger in AvP2011, certain levels in this). It still makes me hope for another great game.
