Windows 8 Metro Tiles via OblyTiles
« on: January 05, 2013, 10:01:49 am »

You can create your own Metro Tiles with OblyTiles. I have created one for Dwarf Fortress and another for Dwarf TheRapist, feel free to contribute with metrotiles you have created yourself!

Tiles!

Dwarf Fortress: http://imgur.com/dMAmQ
Dwarf Therapist: http://imgur.com/26TgD

Example: http://imgur.com/6jz1X

How do I create a tile?

1. Download and install OblyTiles
2. Create an image with Photoshop or Paint, whatever.
3. Use OblyTiles with the image (once you start OblyTiles its straightforward how it should be done)
4. ...
5. PROFIT!!!

I have tried creating one for SoundSense but it looks miserable.. Maybe anyone here could create a nice one?

I should look into this. For now, look here. Mattahan is the artist behind the Dwarf Therapist icon.  Several of his icons serve Dwarf Fortress well, and some will work for Soundsense. This one is the one I use for Dwarf Fortress.

I finally got around to doing this. This isn't modding, so this really needs to be in the DF General section. That being said, I don't want to make a new thread as it's really a reply to this one. So anyway. I use three, as I also play with Dwarf Therapist and Soundsense. The images are hiding behind the spoiler tags, arranged as they are on my start screen. I found this image through the Dwarf Fortress subreddit, where somebody had used the same image for a Steam tile. All artistic credit goes to the original artist, here.

Here's what it looks like in action. My work-in-progress Start screen, complete with blacked out username.
