Perils of the Mighty Church
« on: January 16, 2013, 12:19:39 am »

So I genned a small world, with limited civilizations, because I was hoping for kobolds and was too lazy to mod them. No such luck, but, eh. Not a big deal. I still found something interesting.

Specifically, I decided to see what would happen if I disabled "Periodically erode extreme cliffs". The end result is a LOT of slopes. Hard to see stuff, lots of shops stacked on top of each other, it's pretty silly in the city. But what's probably the strangest thing is an unfinished church. The town has two churches, one to some goon named Zotho Steamblisters the Splattered Gleams--an interesting character himself--and another, unfinished church called The Mighty Church. It's unfinished, from what I could ascertain--there's clearly room for more upwards expansion, and as of now, there isn't actually an entrance--you have to travel through a diagonal gap in the rock, and then jump down a Z-level, so you can't go back out once you go in to explore, and risk dying on the way in. I didn't get to explore as much as I'd like before I got lazy, turned ambushing off, and got my lung perforated by a kobold bowman... but before I did, I found skeletons EVERYWHERE, lots of engravings glorifying horrible night creatures, and a huge corpsepile with several memorial slabs and coffins, and even a sarcophagus. It is my firm belief that the grounds were haunted or cursed, and during construction, something terrible happened and killed all the masons and clerics--perhaps some of these night creatures I've heard about.

Oh. And regarding Zotho... from what I can glean, he is aligned with the spheres Lust, Depravity, and War. Oh, and the high priest is called the "Sacred Sin".

I'm thinking I may need to mod in some wings and explore this temple...

EDIT: It turns out you can escape if you go aboveground and fast travel, despite having no way to climb out of the pit. Time to clean out the catacombs I guess?

I've actually left this particular exploration quest thingy for later, because HOLY SHIT, the kobolds are really really strong for kobolds. Seriously. I scummed like five times after getting nearly instantly slaughtered by the same few jerks, and eventually said "screw it" and let the dude die, then rolled a demigod. He beat down the first set of kobolds (two bowman and a swordsman), but got shot in the lung--thankfully I was able to fast-travel to heal it. The next room with kobolds, though, has a LOT of guys, and a few elites. Holy shit.

And I can't bring companions down with me, because they won't jump into the pit and follow me. Which I'm glad for, since it means the AI isn't -that- suicidal, but it means I have to solo this dungeon. And I dislike that. Definitely coming back after leveling up.

That's pretty cool. Evil religions have evil churches.

I think if you could vamp youself that would help immensely against lots of weaker enemies - noexert and strength increase would be nice.

If it's one tile high gap you could always bring minecarts and ride climb the gaps back up.
Though you need to besure that it's not a two tile fall and just a one tile, and to place down the cart next to the ledge you want to climb out of or you might end up screwed.
