is it possible to re-create a map/embark?

Question for you hackers... I have a great embark site but didn't design the fort as aesthetically as I'd like.  Is there any way to get a do-over, perhaps by re-generating the same world and embark site?  Or is it lost forever?

if you pull the world parameters, you can rebuild the world with a worldgen with "advanced parameters", by filling in all the blanks, including the seed values.

That will let you regenerate a pristine world.

How do I pull the parameters?  I found where they're supposed to appear on the advanced world gen screen (as in the screen shot here), but there's no "last seed" visible on my screen.

did you read the post I linked to?

Savescum your current fortress by copying the save folder. Abandon the fortress, then play that world under legends mode. Export the world parameters.  This will generate a textfile containing all the pertinent data.

you can also export an image of your fort (it exports world-gen parameters) then regenerate it. on the other hand you migth need to abandon the original save one (after savecum if you prefere) to see where it was if you do not remember (reclaim shows it nicely)

Thanks.  And I figured out on my own that the final step is to copy-paste the worldgen information into the file data/init/worldgen.txt/.

I have to run off to lunch but maybe tonight I'll post some images of my embark for any who are interested.  The embark is a crag overlooking chasms on the east and south, with a river to the north.  A 14-level sheer drop with picturesque waterfall goes down to the lower river.  Across the two chasms are two other good-sized crags.  I'm going to build a castle on one of them, then build workshops into the cliff face with windows so the dwarfs can admire the waterfall.  Enclosed sky-bridges will connect the sides of the chasms but only internally.  No iron ore unfortunately but the map has about everything else you'd want.

As you can see there are three "crags" separated by steep cliffs, each of which would make a nice spot for a castle.  I'm going to have some fun with this map.  I did a little cheating and I figured out what it has for metals, as well as the best place to put a staircase either to avoid or to exploit the caverns and magma.

Sure, I meant to do that earlier, just couldn't remember my web hosting password and didn't have a convenient place to put the location image.  Here's the worldgen info:

Note that this is the "reclaim" screen, so the location is not a yellow X.  The site is where the omega symbol (for a dwarf fortress) is on the map.  This is near the far northeast of the world map.

Sorry for the bump... I tried to 'load' this map by putting the params in my world_gen.txt file and starting a new world with it in the advanced params menu.

It creates a map that seems to look like it, but rejects it quite late, after the lakes and minerals. The map it generates after that is a water filled region, the northeast corner is more like a tropical island.

I am using df2012 with phoebius on linux, if that matters at all.

Am I doing something wrong?

I just tried it with Phoebus on DF2012 on Win7, 'cos I thought I remembered it affecting worldgen back in DF2010, & got what appears to be basically the same world & embark.

So the issue might be that you're on Linux.

Generated with LazyNewb & Phoebus, don't think I've modded anything. DFFD > Pre-Generated Worlds > JoesWorld.
