World Invasion (By Clowns)

So I recently took a trip to the circus after getting bored with humdrum stability of my current fort. After the obvious happened, I got to thinking. This is maybe the second or third fortress I've gotten rid of this way in the current world but I've never come across hordes of floppy-shod bastards when wandering in adventurer mode unless I return to the site of an old fortress.

Do clowns spawned on a fortress site ever leave that fortress site, or do they just stay there permanently? Can they leave and start affecting the countryside? I occasionally come across towns being ravaged by the undead with no interference on my part and was hoping that the same could be applied to other creatures.

I don't think they will in the current version. But I toady said something like it would be interesting to see the world be destroyed due to a player fortress unleashing the circus. It might be in the next version. Sometimes demons escape from hell(I think it says the underworld in legends.) and diguise themselves as gods/elves/humans/dwarfs. Then go to rule different civs.

Correct.  Demons can escape from the underworld during worldgen, but this is the only time that they will take on an active role.  If you let them out during a play of fort mode, they behave like any other attackers when your fort ends: they stay there and mill around forever until you return with a reclaim party or as an adventurer.

Toady has stated that he did something with 'demon sites' for the next version but has been tight lipped about what that means so far.  I suspect it won't mean demons go wandering the country side any more than they do right now.  It's probably just fleshed out shrine maps for demons, perhaps leading to the underworld or something like that.

My personal guess is that it has something to do with the underground demon fortresses. He was talking about various things that might happen if demons were unleashed in fort mode during one of the more recent podcasts though IIRC.

Thanks for the info. It does make a certain amount of sense. If they could leave fortress sites then you'd end up having to use a backup of the world or just live with the fact that the entire planet was basically doomed and have to gen another one, unless you managed to reclaim the site, not die, and wall off the entrance to Hell.
