Dumped onto a swamp titan altar in the middle of nowhere?
« on: January 28, 2013, 03:22:57 pm »

So, I'm playing a game on a short-history, large world (year 5) as an Armok avatar (cheap, but who doesn't like fireballs?). I'm told to kill an overlord in a camp somewhere, so I go to the camp. Overlord is friendly, I have a chat, she tells me the location of a few megabeasts which I then kill.

So, I ask her hammerman friend in the camp for a job, and he also tells me to kill the overlord. I assume she was some form of demon or whatever posing as something else, but she's a human. I retire in the camp and look at his page in Legends.

All normal so far. I return to the body of my adventurer, and...

I appeared in the middle of a swamp titan's temple, covered in water, in the middle of nowhere. I'm not even sure if this thing is on the same landmass as the camp. I'm going to try to find a nice town where I can retire and check legends mode. Any idea what could have caused this? Other than some pretty crazy parties at that camp?

EDIT: Well, I found a nice place to settle down (if an invisible goblin fortress counts as 'nice'), so I'm gonna try to find the positions in legends mode.

As far as I can tell, this is where the swamp altar was (I recognize the goblin fortress):

The camp's approximate location, on the other hand...

Rather far to teleport seemingly without reason. I'm going to travel back to that place and have a very strong word with that overlord.

As far as I know, adventurers (re)start near caves and shrines if there are no more friendly civilizations left. My guess is that since you did those jobs for the overlady you became enemy of the civilization that ordered you to kill her in first place. Or maybe retiring in camps is just messed up.

Retiring in a location makes you a member of the group and civ that owns that location. If you retire in a camp, it makes sense that you became a member of that bandit gang. If Mimidormi's information that adventurers with no friendly human civilizations left to join start wherever, then it makes a bit of sense, as you as a bandit would be hostile to any human civilizations.

However, you are now a member of a goblin civilization due to your retiring with them. Good luck! :P

I don't seem to be an enemy of anyone. I mean, even the goblins and humans that ambush me are friendly, and I got quests from the town that told me to kill her just fine (note: One of the people that told me to kill her was her own hammerman). The jobs I did for her were mostly hydra-killing-related. Though, this is after returning from retiring as a goblin. I even walked back to the camp (that took awhile) and re-retired after killing the overlady (with fire, so it wasn't blamed on me), and I was in the same camp. Apparently the whole fly-halfway-across-the-map thing only worked once.

Certainly lots of friendly civs left though. Maybe cause the world is so young they haven't had time to start proper wars yet?

I'm also confused as to why even her own bandits proclaimed her some force of evil and a beast even though she was a perfectly normal human. She hasn't even killed anyone, all she did was argue her way to the top of the bandit camp's leadership.

In the meantime I'm concluding that the overlord put me on that altar as a sacrifice to the forest titan. After magically teleporting me across the entire map. Yep.

They respect you for your heroic deeds or your allegiance lies nowhere, just as it happens for human outsider adventurers interrupted by goblin patrols yet not assaulted by them. What does legends mode say about your adventurer?

I'm at a loss to explain this, with legends mode confirming she's not a vampire either.

The goblin thing makes sense (I'm playing a modded Armok outsider), but there's lots of civs around this world. Must be some strange bug that send me to the altar.

As to my adventurer, it goes on for a few pages, but I don't seem to be enemy to a whole lot of groups. For the span of time in which I moved to the altar, it mentions nothing. It talks about how I settled in one place, then killed a titan at least a month's travel away. It also calls me a "nothing", presumably because I just throw fireballs at everything.

It goes on like this for a few pages.

Delightfaithful is the camp, Nightmarehates is the goblin fortress.

There's a few pages of "legendary hero", ending in this.

Apparently everyone really hated something I killed. I don't even have that many kills that count as mine (most are with dragon fire).

No, I killed the dingo on my way back to Delightfaithfuls, after my settling in Nightmarehates. Still, pretty impressive dingo, able to get a name in just five years of worldgen.

...Or not.
