How long does it take for a fire to go out?
« on: November 26, 2007, 10:25:00 am »

I just had an unexpected (and unwanted) visit from a dragon. The Captain of the Guard took care of him in no time, but the beast still managed to set a few stockpiles on fire. Some of my soldiers also perished through fire, and before I knew, I had dwarves running around, on fire. Five have already burned and bled to death. While I've forbidden my dwarves to touch any burning items or buildings, the smoke is very annoying, as the game has pretty much ground to a halt. Is there any way to put out the fires?

EDIT: I've reverted to a backup, so it doesn't really matter anymore, but it'd still be good to know.

You could try flooding the place(s) where there is something afire. Other than that, the fire will *eventually* stop burning after a season or five...

Unfortunately, due to some (lots) design shortsights, flooding the place was out of question.
