Possible fix for adv-mode cavern depopulation?
« on: March 21, 2013, 02:29:57 pm »

Same as title, basically. As far as I know, the bug in question has been around a while, and while my google-fu is admittedly rather rusty, I figure that since it's been a thing for a while, someone must have come up with a fix.

(For those unaware: the way I understand it is that each civilization, and each creature, have abstract "entity populations", a reserve number of generic dudes that exist in memory. When you load up a site, it subtracts numbers from this generic population, and spawns some guys. Well, in the caverns, when creatures despawn from being moved out of range, the entity populations are not readjusted for this, and it treats as if you'd killed these things that you probably never even saw. This eventually leads to the caverns being completely depopulated. Which sucks.)

Solution: Make really big populations.
