Would stones on the ground of the barracks keep soldiers from sparring?  Because I've locked them in the barracks but I just can't seem to get them to spar.  Yes they are off duty.

Are they in separate squads? I've noticed that dwarves seem reluctant to spar with squadmates.  And no, stones on the ground have no effect on sparring.

Are you sure? If you fill the barracks with a stockpile or a zone, your soldiers won't spar, so the stones might have an effect.

Stones have no more affect than the scattered socks and mittens that invariably end up cluttering the barracks. They're just so much more random trash.

No, stone don't stop them from sparring. Check the wounds page (be sure to scroll down!) for nerve damage (brain, spine injuries). These will stop sparring and are the cause of the VAST majority of problems people have getting dwarves to spar.

yeah the nerve damage thing got me good when it came to sparring.  Even in full plate using silver weapons my dwarves inevitably all go brain dead and stop sparring.  It's really a major game flaw at the moment, and I hope it gets some TLC soon
