So, I've played a couple fortresses lasting ~2 years each with nothing but fisherdwarves, and I have to ask.. where the hell are all the sharks, or for that matter, anything besides oysters, mussels, and bat rays?

I don't see much information on the wiki about catching larger game, so I thought I'd turn to the experts (:

Your fisherdwarves will never catch sharks, since sharks are wildlife just like mountain goats, hoary marmots and so on.  Sharks and other large fish are found in oceanic biomes, so if you want to hunt sharks you'll have to set up shop there.  Good luck!
