We must raise money. DF needed a legal defense fund eventually anyway. Concerned parents will find us eventually.

There is no lowest spec, it just gets slower and slower.

We just need to get Toady to embed a Lisp interpreter into DF.  Learning lambda calculus in order to play the game wouldn't make DF's learning curve much steeper.

I got DF working on an old desktop from 2006 I think. It was good then, but not so much now. The only reason I keep it around is because it has a monster motherboard that im going to use later.

The worst computer iv tried to get it working on is my dads old computer from, like, 1998. From what I heard it cost him 2000$ back then and was top of the line. I was trying to get on the internet to download it but I wasn't exacaly familier with windows 98, and you had to hook it up to a phone or something to get on the internet. In the end I realised it wan't worth it and gave up.

I tried it on an old laptop from around 2002 when mine was broken - 1,2GHz and 768MB RAM. World gen happened pretty much in real time and the highest FPS in game was around 5 in the very beginning. Is that playable? Absolutely, if you have the time ;) And after trying this, I can really appreciate 30-40FPS. Everything under 15 gets annoying.

I have a eight year old single core 2300 Mhz that will run DF at about the same speed as my half-year old laptop. *sigh*

Traditionally laptops don't have particularly good clock speeds and since DF utilizes no more than 1 core with no help from hyperthreading, etc, you're not going to get much of an advantage without getting a better CPU.

I play on an Acer Aspire One netbook from this year (soon to be last year). It locks up semi-often, but it's still very playable. Heavens forbid you have even one Firefox window with one tab open while you play, though. Specs here.

Another thing to note: Most mods or conversions come with a graphics pack pre-installed, which always has that "black space" option on by default for some reason. The Aspire One's screen is only 1024 x 600, which means you end up having to squint and guess a lot if you like graphic packs or mods.
