Adventurer mode question

Can shields block ranged attacks?

I'm getting tired of acquiring Legendary skills and then being shot down in 4 hits from someone across the map. I havn't tried using shields though.

They should work fairly well compared to everything else, especially if you build up some skill with them.  But I'm not sure.  Because ranged weapons are quite overpowered by bugs and issues.

You should complain to the maintainer of this game.  That's just plain outrageous!

I've always had some degree of success against ranged attackers (as much as you can have, anyway,) when I dealt with them by sneaking up behind them and breaking their weapon arm. Of course, sometimes you get discovered by some other critter, and then, well, there's not much you can do other than try to break line of sight and rehide. Other than ambushing, yeah, shields are probably your best bet.

Shields are definitely your best bet.  When you get attacked while wielding a shield and you see the message The shot is blocked! you deflected it with your shield and you will gain skill in shield user.  Otherwise the blow glances away when it hits your armor and failing that you take damage.  And vs ranged weapons that can mean alot of damage.  Being handy with a shield gives you and extra, critical, line of defense.
