Dual-classing for the ages (Possible spoilers)
« on: December 19, 2012, 02:23:43 pm »

So I started up a new adventurer with the intent to play the pacifist challenge. (Masterwork, not that it matters too much in this case, only because adventure-mode reactions are important so that I don't have to steal stuff.) I go looking around to find the capital, hoping to buy stuff and unload my useless weapon. I find a fortress, ruled by a demon. He has written several books, including this beauty.

"The Underworld For Everyone", a bogeyman leather-bound book. For bonus points, it happens to be a book about a book. But just the fact that it was bound in bogeyman leather.

Then I also came across a FIRE-bound book.

Screw pacifism. I'm officially going paladin. The demon shall be slain.

On that note, is there any way to kill a UNIQUE_DEMON without loyalty issues? Accusing him of being a night creature didn't work.

Not really. The best I could come up with was with a necro adventurer. Carried a huge load of corpses to him, including some big animals and some semi-megabeasts, dropped them in his room and animated them. They killed all his soldiers, I animated them too. The damn thing didn't even have a special attack, but killed all the zombies no matter how often I revived them. He also became "very muscular" in the process. I went to get more corpses and when I came back, all his wounds, not even severe to begin with, had healed. I tried again and then gave up.

Welp. That makes the quest even more epic.

Totally gonna do this thing. Sadly, the original Kodor Holycross died to bogeymens... just means I didn't grind up properly the first night. The dark reign of Geslux Contestedphantoms will end by my hand! So sweareth I, Kaadek Holycross, a blood oath upon the name of my late father, and upon the grace of Armok, that my soul may not rest until this brute is extinguished.

(She goes by Kashi, I know her true name only through legend mode, and shall not refer to her as such until this name is known. All Kaadek knows is that Kashi is not Kashi, but a demon.)

And here we have Kaadek's starting stats. Booyeah.

I used my L33T photoshop mspaint skills to change "Imperial Guard" into Wrestler here. Because that's what it is. Merely a text swap. But it may confuse people who do not Masterwork. (Like me.)

I will not, however, change it every single time it shows up. Cause that would take too much bloody effort.

Journal of Kaadek Monom, 2 Galena, 36

Today is the day. I have just visited the local temple and paid my yearly pilgrimage, and it is no coincidence I have chosen this day to officially swear the blood oath which binds me, my spirit, and the like of my descendents to the destruction of the fiend, the false god Kashi. The others do not understand. They are blinded in their belief. They say that it is delusion, that the startling form she takes is one of her choosing, to determine who is worthy to bask in her true beauty. Ignorant moors. Death will find them soon enough.

But I cannot simply walk out and destroy such a being as I am now. A pious and pure man my father was, but he lasted not one day on his pledge to Serra before the fell creatures of the night descended upon him and stripped his flesh from his bone. No doubt on order from Kashi herself. No... I must prepare myself first. A swim in the river will clear my head and prepare me for what comes ahead.

Apparently, the local platypus population had the same idea. I shall stay to the other side of the stream, as I have heard stories of their venom rivaling that of the more typically feared creatures.

Good luck!
Depending on the demon's attack there might be another way. I once killed a regular demon in a cave, barely fighting him at all. He had a breath attack and basically killed himself by being blown away from his own deadly dust and slamming into obstacles. So if he has a breath attack my zombie method could work better, because breath attacks are kind of bugged.
Otherwise you could just to it the traditional way and make the entire civ hate you.

It seems to me like they work somewhat like caveins. That is it seems to stem from the fact that all material_emission interactions always seem to hit the one doing them first (forcing immunity tokens on them) and the immunity tokens doesnt work on the "cavein effect" seems to create the issue. Although I have no way of verifying this.

Journal of Kaadek Monom, 2 Galena, 36

The dip in the river reminded me how much of a bother it is.. it seems as if the flowing water drains away time itself. There is a lake up north, but I will need to stop for the night in order to reach it, or else risk being molested by the foul spirits of the night. I have stopped by a cave, and shall take shelter here for the night.

But first... Creatures, resembling the blessed Satyr but twisted into horrible form, pursued me. Remembering my training, I quickly put them both down with a pair of well-aimed fireballs. They are passed out and should burn to death before long. What worries me, though, is the sounds of combat I heard before they turned on me. They were fighting something else... something metallic...

I appear to have lucked out. This cave does not contain any beasts... that I can see. It extends down, far down beneath the earth, but exactly what may lie down there is an exploration for another day. For now, I barricade myself in with fires, and sleep...

5th Galena, 36

Well. I appear to have made an error in judgement. I have been trapped inside this cave, as the fire will not subside. Luckily I have some pond turtle I can munch on, but if I cannot put these fires out soon, I will starve in this cave. Perhaps it would have been more dignified to take my chances with the evil spirits...

Of course. How foolish of me. The Gift of Morpheus, a spell that would come in perfect handy. Summoning a burst of aqua vitae, my isolation has ended, and I may continue north. ((OOC: NOW I know what that spell is actually good for. Holy shit. That was dumb. Being locked in a room for 3 days cause I lit campfires that wouldnt' go out. Haha, haha, no.))

Upon exiting the cave and being presented with the sunlight again, I am greeted by several wolves. Well. I sure hope they like fire...

Taking a few more steps, however, presents me with a horrifying sight. Wolves, birds, several raptors, and even a forest imp and horse, all desperately fighting an animated bronze statue. It is thankfully not one of the colossi, but still looks like the kind of creature you tell stories about in hushed tones. I shall aid the wildlife by pelting it with fire from afar, but I dare not engage such a beast.

On second thought... I may not need to. As I step even further down, I see more and more raptors, some leprechauns, and even a Dire Lion. The statue has been pushed into the water, hopefully it shall rust down there. I shall be fleeing here as soon as I am far enough away.

for your future reference, I haven't been able to prove that starting with a high attribute gives you any long-term benefit
